Personal Information:
I am a specialist English and school admissions tutor with more than 16 years’ teaching experience and over 6,500 hours of individual tuition. My main areas of expertise are 11+ and 13+ English, school entrance examinations, GCSE English Language and Literature, History, and study skills.

I have successfully prepared students for entry to some of the UK’s most competitive schools, with former pupils gaining places at Winchester College, St Paul’s, Hampton, Abingdon and St Mary’s Ascot. I am experienced in preparing students for Common Entrance, individual schools’ own entrance assessments, and admissions interviews.

My approach to tutoring extends beyond preparing students to achieve strong examination results. I want students to develop into confident and independent learners, able to analyse ideas critically, express themselves clearly and tackle unfamiliar challenges with assurance. Each student is different, so I begin by identifying their existing strengths, areas for development and learning habits, and then build lessons around their individual requirements.

My teaching incorporates explicit explanation and modelling alongside guided practice, discussion and frequent revision of previously learned material. Particular attention is given to comprehension, analytical skills, essay writing and the academic habits that underpin long-term progress. I adjust the level and focus according to the student, whether they need to strengthen fundamental skills, prepare intensively for a selective entrance examination or receive additional challenge in order to achieve at the highest level.

In addition to many years of private tuition, my educational experience includes teaching undergraduate seminars and working as a British Council Senior Examiner, where my assessment work has included examinations connected with university entrance in China. My qualifications include the Cambridge CELTA and an MA in Cultural History.
