Personal Information:
My passion for teaching began when I was at school as a student. I consider myself to have been fortunate to have had my education paid for by the State (apart from an MA in Education which was completed as a hobby). That is so different today and is one of the reasons why I became a tutor as a way of paying back what was given to me as a basic right.
Professionally I have worked in Psychiatric and General Nursing, Probation and Teaching. Academically, my qualifications consist of a BA Nursing (1:1): MA Social Work: LLB Law: PGCE Citizenship and an MA in Education. All of these were achieved within work. My teaching experience consists of teacher of RE and Philosophy, English Health and Social Care, and Head of Department and Head of Humanities Faculty.
I left mainstream teaching in 2019 as I wanted more balance between work and leisure. I passed my Bike test, completed track days and a lap around the TT course. Yes, I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie! I kept bees for a while. Other interests include Music, Theatre and more recently, painting.
My teaching style is flexible but driven by individual student need. My approach is not just about helping students to achieve their potential academically but also to help develop their self-esteem, confidence and life skills in order to deal with the stresses of everyday life. I am very easy going but have a firm grasp of what is needed to master the curriculum. I am also a good communicator and all of my relationships in teaching have been strong both with students and their families. This is a key strand in my tutoring as I believe it is important to keep parents abreast of what I am teaching and feeding back on the student's progress regularly. I have a wide network of colleagues and resources and make a point of keeping up to date with changes in the Curriculum and schools. I feel I am a good motivator. I love teaching young people and feel privileged when given the opportunity to do so.
