1. How do I find a tutor on this site?
Go to the main search page there you will find a map of the UK in the main window and a list of counties in the left hand window. Either select the area on the map or the county to bring up a list of tutors and agencies that offer tuition in that area.
2. Do I have to pay to find a tutor or tutoring agency on Home Tutors Directory?
Home Tutors Directory is an online classified directory where UK tutors and tutoring agencies advertise their tuition sevices. We are not a tutoring agency so do not take commission and unlike some other directories we do not charge a finders fee.Any student/parent/guardian can search Home Tutors Directory free of charge. Tutors and agencies pay a nominal annual fee to cover the administration costs of running this web site.
3. Is Home Tutors Directory a tuition agency?
We are not a tuition agency. We provide online advertising space for Tutors, Tuition agencies and Training providers.
4. Are the tutors vetted?
Please note we only advertise an agency's or tutor's details. We do not vet advertisers on our site. It is the responsibility of the prospective student or parent/guardian to judge the suitability of the tutor. Some tutors may have been recently checked by the Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) especially those who are qualified working teachers or child care professionals. However not all private tutors are qualified teachers or if they are, may not be currently working for an LEA in which case they may not have been recently checked or indeed have ever undergone a CRB check. A word of warning on CRB checks, as they only check for convictions they are not a guarantee that the individual concerned is suitable to work with children. We at Home Tutors Directory recommend that the parent guardian arrange a meeting with the prospective tutor to discuss any queries they may have before commencing tuition. Most tutors are very willing to accommodate this.
5. When I have found a tutor or agency what do I do next?
Contact the tutor or agency from their details advertised on this site. Please mention that you have received their details from Home Tutors Directory. If you are contacting an agency they may ask you some questions about your location and the subject and level that you require, they may also ask you if you are willing to travel to the tutors address or if you are only interested in tutors who are willing to travel to you. These questions enable the agency to match you up with the nearest and most suitable tutor that they have. If you are contacting an individual tutor they may ask you similar questions. Remember to ask how much the hourly rate is and don't forget to ask if there are any other extra charges such as travelling costs or charges for providing resources such as exam papers etc. If you are happy to proceed the next stage is usually to arrange a face to face meeting for you and or the student with the tutor to ask any further questions you may have and also for the tutor to ask you and the student about their studies and to explain more fully about the service they offer. Most tutors would not charge a fee for this initial consultation although some might. If you wish to proceed then all that needs to be done is to arrange a time that is convenient for both parties.
6. Who are Home Tutors Directory?
Two long established private tutors with over twenty five years of combined experience in tutoring and lecturing.
