Chemistry is studied at very basic level and incorporated into the science component studied within the curriculum.
The GCSE Chemistry syllabus requires students to study the following list of topics. Atoms and electronic structure, formulae and equations, calculations, chemical bonding and structures, molecules, Periodicity, Periodic Table, metals, thermochemistry, rates of reaction, metals, electrolysis, Alkane, Alkenes, Crude Oil, Polymers, the Earth and the atmosphere and chemical tests.
The studying of A Level Chemistry can be divided into Quantitative chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. These topics are a more detailed study of those studied at GCSE and are; bonding, periodicity, periodic table, transition elements, extraction of metals, calculations, energetics, kinetics, equilibria , acids and bases, redox and further redox. Organic Chemistry is a major component of A Level Chemistry and involves the detailed study of Isomersim, Alkanes, Alkenes, Halogenalkanes, Alcohols, Carbonyl Compounds, Aromatic Compounds, Amino Acids and Amines and Polymers. Students are also assessed by chemistry practicals by written and evaluated chemistry reports.
Upon completion of A levels, access courses or NVQs students may choose to specialise in Chemistry at University. There are many different types of undergraduate and post graduate chemistry courses to choose from. Here is some of the major disciplines studied for undergraduate and post graduate level chemistry Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Bimolecular Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Colour Chemistry, Crystallography, Environmental Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Marine Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Metallurgy, Organometallic Chemistry, Pharmacology, , Pharmacy, Petrochemical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Qualitative Chemistry, Quantitative Chemistry and.Structural Chemistry.
